Thoroughly Modern Tilly’s Garden

The minimal, modern style garden is nearly complete, big change from the garden of last spring.  Tilly the Cockapoo, has certainly made her mark in our garden, the lawn laid in the autumn couldn’t cope with our playful puppy, so dog friendly artificial turf seemed the perfect answer.
The planting kept simple, herbs, salad and veg okay for our furry friend to chew. The front garden, is now home to the cottage garden plants that need to be out of her way!

A Modern and Mediterranean garden

New look garden 3

Tilly our Cockapoo, has certainly made her mark in our garden. The lawn laid in the autumn looks very dog tired, so a new approach was needed.
All the cottage style plants have been relocated to the front garden and a modern, mediterranean feel with simple planting of dog friendly herbs are the way forward.

The greenhouse has been obscured by a black moroccan style screen, I am loving the patterns created in the shadow.

The apples trees have been replaced by an single olive tree and the lawn will be replaced next week with dog friendly artificial grass.

The things we do for love

Getting a puppy has changed everything in our lives, including the garden. When we moved in, I removed the lawn and rammed the borders with bee friendly plants and flowers. This year when the chicken run went, it became even more of a jungle and probably the best it has ever looked.flower gardenIt was however, not at all Tilly the Cockapoo friendly. Pulling at plants as she doodle dashes to the bottom of the garden to dig up and eat the bark. Not ideal, as it turns out that so many, well actually nearly all plants in my garden were “toxic to dogs”.  But Tilly comes first, and so to save my sanity, all dangerous plants have now been removed and replaced with a small lawned area. Some plants are spending the winter in my raised bed until I can decide where to put them.

The Sweet Peas “Blue Velvet’ in the front garden were definitely the stars this year, masses of long, straight and highly perfumed blooms.

In the back garden the Everlasting Sweet Peas have produced very pretty pale pink flowers, unscented of course but free from the greenfly which have once again blighted the rest.
