The Sweet Peas “Blue Velvet’ in the front garden were definitely the stars this year, masses of long, straight and highly perfumed blooms.

In the back garden the Everlasting Sweet Peas have produced very pretty pale pink flowers, unscented of course but free from the greenfly which have once again blighted the rest.

Front of house gardening

front garden.jpg

The blue plastic that had been protecting the garden from the local cat community was removed and I was ready to get planting.
My plan, a very loose one, was hardy annuals (mainly) in purple and orange.
The bean canes have been planted with Sweet Pea “Blue Velvet’ and Purple Cobaea scandens. They are surrounded by a mix of Lavender Munstead, Cerinthe major ‘Purpurascens’, Eschschoizia californica ‘Orange King’, Salvia Viridis and Calendula ‘Indian Prince’

I covered the plants with pea netting, to provide the necessary support as they grow, but also to protect them ‘hopefully’ from my furry neighbours!
I also like to give the local slugs and snails a celebratory beer, rude not to.
